  • Description: This large canvas, signed on the front but not dated, can be placed among the numerous religious commissions that Consadori carried out in the first decades of the second half of the twentieth century. The paintings in the sanctuary of Saint Rita in Cascia and the beginning of his work in the Oropa are from 1951. About a decade later, he executed the altar in the Chapel of St. Martin de Porres in the Basilica delle Grazie in Milan (1962); the Portrait of Cardinal Montini, the future Paul VI (Milan, Archbishop’s Picture Gallery); the frescoes in the Swiss chapel in the Vatican; and the stained glass window with the Resurrection for the Pope's private chapel. With a craftsman-like training in Brescia, Consadori maintained his interest in genre painting and sacred art in his mature years. His interest in genre painting was also heightened by his association with the painters of Burano and his trips to northern Europe. Recognized as one of the few painters of sacred art of our time, Consadori addresses the theme of the sacred by emphasizing the evocative power of his pictorial technique. Currently not on display.
