Harbour depictions are a special theme within Walter Leistikow's landscape painting, which he turned to from the naturalistic beginnings to the late creative period. In this painting the dark sailing ships lie calmly in the harbour water, whose motionless surface reflects the hull and superstructure of the ship. Shapes and colours are in a meaningful tension to each other, a feeling of the mysterious and symbolic is imparted.
