Deru, also called Dhak, is a percussion instrument from Rajasthan. It is an hourglass-shaped wooden bifacial drum made of mango wood. It is mounted with a thin parchment of skin on both sides of the frame with a rope and only one face is beaten with two curved sticks. Deru produces rhythmic beats in tune with the musical performance and is a common accompaniment to ritual chants and folk songs.
