Born in the year 1930, Solomon Irein Wangboje had his higher institutional studies in the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology (NCAST), Zaria. Through his works, he commonly portrays scenes from everyday life as well as mythical concepts. Popularly known as a master print Maker, he was also recognized as the first Nigerian professor of fine arts. During his time, he wrote extensively on Nigrian art education and this distinguished him as a renowned educator.
In the piece Desert Journey, three travellers or sojourners are seen with their seven camels advancing on their journey. the cuts of the wood enliven the strokes and patches of the path and the, trees which recede into the background. The vibrant colours of yellow and red reverberate throughout the piece as it leads the viewers eye from the background to the foreground of the work.
