This piece depicts a town where the camels that travel the Rajasthan Desert in northern India come to rest. It is said that the ruins of an ancient castle are being used as folk houses. The intense sunlight casts deep shadows on the collapsing walls and open windows. The India depicted by Akino in her 80's include many works that give an impression of people's lives, such as those depicting towns and homes showing traces of human habitation, as well as religious images and people's beliefs. A particular characteristic of these works is that they express a viewpoint one step closer to life in India than just an outside traveler.
