Arthur Heygate Mackmurdoc.1880s

William Morris Gallery

William Morris Gallery
Walthamstow, London, United Kingdom

A working drawing, this piece was designed for an embroidered border of leaves. It was intended to be worked by the Royal School of Art Needlework; whose name can be seen in the bottom-right corner of the drawing. Like William Morris, the Century Guild often worked with the Royal School of Needlework. The school was one of a handful of practitioners recommended in the Hobby Horse, the group’s quarterly publication.
