This sketch in ink and gouache on a torn page may well be Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo's original design for the Century Guild's monogram, which was printed on the back page of publications produced by the Century Guild, most notably the 'Hobby Horse' periodical. The initials also commonly featured as part of Mackmurdo's repeat patterns for textiles. Here the letters 'C' and 'G' are intwined with a pomegranate plant that appears to be aflame.
