Zohiko retains numerous antique design sketch patterns. Drawn on traditional Japanese paper called washi, the contours of a sketch pattern were traced with red lacquer and pressed onto the surface of lacquerware to transfer the pattern. These sketches are known as okime. At Zohiko, okime have been carefully stored over the years for use in-house in arranging or combining existing designs, as well as devising new ones.
