This is the preliminary design for the poster for the commissioning of the s.s. 'Statendam' (III) of the Holland America Line. Cassandre, pseudonym of Adolphe Jean Marie Mouron, was known for his innovative, simple compositions without unnecessary details. Very suggestive here are the three mighty funnels of the ship with in the foreground a huge wind pipe for fresh air. Dimensions (wxh): 80 x 106 cm.
