Designs in Circular Forms is an album of designs said to have been brushed by Ogata Korin. Within each small circular piece of paper, Korin has taken motifs from the flowers of the four seasons, and tales of aristocratic Japan, and arranged them in unusual compositions, often with boldly misshapen elements. Judging from the traces of transfer work on the drawings, these works are thought to have been used as preparatory drawings for maki-e lacquer works.
