This telephone was based on the W 48. Responsible for the country’s phone system, the Deutsche Bundespost had approved the W 48 as the second postwar model to be built as of 1948 by several manufacturers on a large scale. The Fg tist 269b differed in that a call meter was added which the Bundespost offered as a new feature because of the introduction of direct dialing of long-distance call service. The housing was made of black or ivory Bakelite. These phones were primarily used in offices since the basic monthly fee and call charges exceeded the budgets of most private households. Direct dialing of long-distance calls in offices necessitated tighter control, which was made possible by the call meter.
