Detail of an engraving from “Theatrum Europaeum”, volume 6, showing the Swedish attack of Prague in 1648. Albeit an artist’s rendition of the fight it is interesting to observe several common weapons of the period, as hand grenades and “chevaux de frise”. The latter was a log covered with projecting wooden spikes primarily intended to repel cavalry. Along the parapet are polearms ready to be used if the enemy reached the inner wall.
