The Isokon block of flats, also known as Lawn Road Flats, was designed in 1929-32 by architect Wells Coates and built in 1933-4. Built for furniture enrepreneurs Jack and Molly Pritchard, the flats were intended for single professionals. It attracted young architects, writers and poets, including refugees from Germany and eastern Europe.
