Detail of Lincoln's Great Coat

Abraham Lincoln’s great coat had “One Country, One Destiny,” a quotation from New Hampshire senator Daniel Webster, stitched into the inner lining. The words are contained within a banner held by an eagle. Decades of displaying the coat open to light have weakened the fibers of the delicate silk lining, so this is a rare glimpse of a fragile artifact.
