Detail of the Anti-Slavery Arch, Farmhill Lane, Stroud, Gloucestershire

The stone archway was formerly the entrance to a carriage drive at Farmhill Park in Gloucestershire. The arch was built in circa 1834 for Henry Wyatt, who had purchased Farmhill Park in 1833. Wyatt was a supporter of the Stroud Anti-Slavery Society and the arch commemorates the abolition of slavery in the British colonies following the passing of the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833.
