The grand gala carriage or "berlingotto" is the oldest and most prestigious example. It was commissioned by Vittorio Emanuele I on the occasion of the wedding of the Duke of Aosta Vittorio Emanuele with Maria Theresa of Habsburg Este. It was created in 1789 by Amedeo Demonte and decorated with refined paintings by Vittorio Amedeo Rapous on a gold background, with allegorical figures representing the virtues, and wooden sculptures attributed to Giuseppe Bonzanigo.
