Detail of the latch handle of the shutters of the central window

The central window retains the ancient wooden shutters, still locked with the original latches. The shutters, in fact, were not removed by French officials when they had the windows bricked up in 1812 and are the only evidence of the original fixtures. The shutters date back to the time of Alexander VII; Proof of this is a detail that adorns the handle of the latch: it is an acorn-shaped knob, which refers to the fruit of the oak, emblem of the family of Alexander VII, the Chigi.
