As the railway expanded across the country, the Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP) felt the need to create training schools that would train specialised labour. The Barreiro, Entroncamento and Porto Schools of Apprentices were thus created, as well as the Schools of Foremen and Brigade Leaders. Learning included the production of models for training apprentices. This is the case of this extraordinary scale replica of Pacific Locomotive CPss 1501 of Companhia do Sul e Sueste. It was built in 1940 by the apprentices of Barreiro Works, with all the features of the real locomotive reproduced with detail and precision. It is possible to see the original locomotive in full size, CP 553, which is displayed on the locomotive roundhouse at Entroncamento.
