This is a trapezoid-shaped fragment of four-color weft-faced silk samite. The colors of dark green, brown and ecru of the motifs on an ochre ground create a vintage palette. This piece is characteristic of fabrics from Central Asia and West Asia, with a well-designed composition and prominent main wefts.
But the loosely-arranged threads and the lack of twist inserted in the weft cords make this piece of textile vulnerable to abrasion. The inner warp threads which failed their role to fix the weft are exposed due to the unraveling of the weft yarns on the surface of the dark green section.
