Martin Mijtens Elder, 1648-1736, was a Dutch portrait painter who was active in Sweden from 1677. Mijtens worked before 1700 in a sober Baroque style. An excellent example of his art is the Baroque portrait of Baron Knut Kurck (1622-1619). Knut Kurck were among the most powerful in Sweden during 1600's second half. He praised as highly versed in all that concerned the trading system, had great influence in the State Council and was moreover a capable and knowledgeable officials.
