Dholak is a two headed hand drum, popular in North India. It is a barrel-shaped instrument which is tightened with cotton rope lacing and metal turn-buckle. The drum is pitched, depending on the size, with an interval of a perfect fourth or perfect fifth between the two heads. Related to the Punjabi Dhol and smaller Dholki, Dholak is widely used in Qawwali, kirtans, Lavani and Bhangra.
