Rare and important Egyptian-revival platinum, diamond and coloured stone bracelet, Lacloche Frères, Paris. Over the past two centuries, Egyptian art has inspired jewellers to create works of great beauty, combining ancient fashion with a modern twist. With the 19th century nostalgia in the West for ancient civilizations came a wave of fashions in a neo-Egyptian style. And the “Egyptomania” continued with historic events such as the publications of Bonaparte’s campaigns or the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. By the early 20th century, more “Egyptian-style” art emerged, especially jewellery. Today, ancient motifs like the scarab beetle or the lotus remain sources of inspiration, objects of fascination.
