The scene shows Acteon, who by chance glimpsed naked Diana, taking a bath. Offended goddess turned him to a stag. He is shown in the picture at the moment when he realizes that his body begins to change, and horns begin to grow on his head. Dramatic gestures express his inquietude. The nymphs in Diana's train do not hide their anger and fear, caused by the impudence of a mortal; Diana on the other hand looks embarrased, bends her head and casts down her eyes.
