Emerging as one of Australia’s best young surfers in the early 1970s, Mark Richards developed close associations with leading Hawaiian surfboard shapers, who were keen to have one of the world's best surfers riding their boards. Dick Brewer is one of the most highly regarded surfboard shapers and so it was not surprising the two teamed up in the mid-‘70s. This board is Brewer's take on the Sting surfboard design, with cut-away rails providing a pivot point and reducing the tail area and introducing a hard edge so the water would release cleanly. The board features artwork by Hawaiian shaper artist Al Dove, this and another similar Brewer board were the first to feature the now iconic MR shield logo. These boards were the inspiration for production model Mark Richards Stings.
