In 1975, Tante Jolesch by Friedrich Torberg, another returnee, reached a wide public. For the first time since 1945, this collection of anecdotes from the interwar years popularized the defunct world of the Jewish bourgeoisie. Humor from the Jewish past in Vienna was finally suitable for mass consumption.
