Martin Brandenburg's works stand in a certain contrast to those of his artist friend Hans Baluschek. His phantastical pictorial creations investigate the supernatural and psychological-sensual in the world and often have a symbolist character. In "Die Windsbraut" from 1899, Brandenburg deals with the forces of nature. The painting shows a muscular woman floating through a landscape. Accompanied by birds and with flowing hair she flies resolutely past a mountain range, a tree leans in her direction of flight. Brandenburg wanted to create a melody or a rhythm through depictions of nature, which one can perceive with the eye instead of the ear.
