Diosa de la fertilidad vegetal

This small sculpture is the depiction of a young goddess represented in the reserved position that is typical of women, knelt with the body on the legs wearing a simple skirt, a triangular garment that covers her chest called quechquémitl and a headdress that consists of a frontal band whose ribbons fall on the back, big cotton tassels to the sides of the head and a paper bow that stands out on both sides of the back of the head called amacuexpalli in Náhuatl. As goddess of vegetable fertility, is represented holding a couple of corncobs in each hand. The goddesses related to the worship of water and corn were widely represented in the Mexica ceramics and in different kind of stone.Arqlga. Bertina Olmedo Vera
