Diplomatic Relations between Joseon and the Russian Empire
On July 7, 1884, the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Gojong (the fifth day of the fifth month of the leap year according to the lunar calendar), Joseon and Russia signed the 13-article “Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between Korea and Russia,” “Regulations under which Russian Trade is to be Conducted in Korea,” “Tariffs,” “Tariff Rules,” and “Special Protocol.” On September 7 of the following year, Emperor Gojong gave his assent to the treaty at Gyeongbokgung Palace.
