From the Artist: What do watercolors and glass have in common? Transparency, opacity, flow of materials, control of the medium, or at times, lack of control and the excitement of surprise.
As a watercolorist and graduate of Pratt Institute and NYU, I studied disciplines ranging from sculpture and ceramics, drawing, painting and graphic design, to graphics color theory and art history. Little did I realize at the time the incredible influence that each discipline would play in my current practice as a glass artist.

The Pandemic has created fear, isolation from friends and family, and a closing in of the world we have known. Conversely, it has created a deeper need to artistically transform what is currently out of reach and convert that to imaginative flights of fancy. My work during the Pandemic has become a vehicle to portray both the darkness of uncertainty and the wishful yearning to once again travel and explore the world. While creating each piece, I am transported to the places forming in my mind. As I place each tiny piece of glass, carefully add ground glass and larger pieces of frit, I envision walking the streets and enjoying the landscape forming in my imagination. As the piece is placed in the kiln and fired to almost 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, the glass softens and flows, adding its own mark to the creator’s hand. I wait patiently, looking forward to opening the kiln the next day. It’s magical. There is a glimmer of light at the horizon.
