Taranto, Italy

Pair of disc earrings, each decorated with a rosette motif with several rings of petals. Three pendants are attached to each disc: two side chains and a small central female head, sculpted all the way round, wearing a frontal diadem, cluster earrings and a pendant necklace. The heads have a small hole at the bottom, where a piece of sponge or fabric soaked in perfumed oils was probably inserted. The earrings were found in a tomb together with a gold diadem.
