This lotus scheme, three blossoms connected by sinuous scrolls, pervaded Song wares and has long been favored for blue-and-white table sets. On this piece, the conventional motif was set off by lotus scrolls around the interior rim and the exterior. On this refined shape, the monotone blue is no longer accented with the dramatic washes as in earlier time, following the taste of the Qing ruling class for highly decorated styles.
