Dish

Imari porcelain is the name for Japanese porcelain ware made in the town of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, north western Kyushu. They were exported to Europe extensively from the port of Imari, Saga in the latter half of 17th century and early 18th century. Japanese as well as the Europeans called this ware Imari. It is coloured porcelain with an under glaze of cobalt blue and over glaze of red and gold. This oval Imari porcelain dish has incised edges and is painted in panels to depict geese, flowers and leaves all over in blue, red and orange. On the reverse, are blue creeper designs with leaves.
