Working alone in the studio is a way of life for many artists. Nevertheless, they depend on the world to continue functioning as usual. The fact that normal activities have virtually ceased due to Covid-19, creates a void and a feeling of unease. In addition, all shows and exhibitions have been postponed or cancelled and the Arts are increasingly pushed to the sidelines; perhaps a convenient situation for many governments and leaders, as art often exposes inconvenient truths about society.

During lockdown months, Barbara has been working on a series of portraits about Covid-19 and the negative effects of lockdowns on mental and physical health. During the pandemic, many senior citizens were forced to isolate from society. Lockdowns have also been extremely detrimental to those suffering from their mental and physical health, not to mention those who have begun to suffer as a direct result of Covid-19 and lockdowns.
