Natalie Finnemore’s (b. 1988) artistic practice encompasses printmaking, drawing, painting and sculpture. Finnemore’s artworks investigate the relationship between the viewer and the sculptural object. She is interested in how sculpture can orchestrate a flow of movement around them and how they can play with our expectations around form and function. Finnemore has explored this exhibiting in galleries, producing a set of bespoke furniture for a resource space and has worked with children on an educational play sculpture project.
Finnemore’s research draws influence from elements of design that are used to manipulate the user’s behaviour.
In 2019, Natalie Finnemore took part in Yorkshire Sculpture International's Associate Artist programme which gave her a grant, mentoring from Yorkshire Sculpture Park and a series of workshops and professional development training. The five Associate Artists exhibited their work together in the Bothy Gallery at Yorkshire Sculpture Park during July 2019.
Yorkshire Sculpture International teamed up with John Lewis & Partners Leeds to work with Natalie to create a new sculptural installation for the store, in the window on Ludgate Hill (opposite Kirkgate Market) and on the second floor near the feature staircase. The commission was on view for the duration of the festival.
