Explanatory text intended for an exhibit at Burlington House, during the Royal Society's conversaziones of 1888. Apparently not used in that year, or not featured in the conversazione programmes. The 19 June 1889 exhibition included 'Rubies from the Burmah mines...exhibited by Mr. Streeter'.
Text reads: 'The Royal Society 1888. Exhibited by C. Carrington Brown Esq. F.G.S. Specimens of ruby in their original matrix [Crystalline limestone] from Burmah.' [Myanmar]
The label has a red ink border and highlighting to the 'T', 'R' and 'S' of The Royal Society. The label is struck through in pencil and is annotated (as re-purposed) 'Committee of Papers 1892-1893'. The reverse has a table of attendees at the Royal Society's Committee of Papers, 1892-1893, with dates of attendances.
