Sawalaram Laxman Haldankar’s, 'Divine Flame' is a beautiful watercolour done by one of the last of the early academic realists. The play of light and shade is intensely evoked through the ritual of the highlighting of the sacred lamp. The painting enhances the beauty of the sacred in daily life. The artist has conjured up an intimate interior scene through the hanging brass lamp and glimpses of framed pictures on the wall.
