Galvanised iron Low Isles helmet used on 1928-29 Great Barrier Reef Expedition.
The helmet was made to specifications prepared by Dr AG Morgan of the Carnegie Institutte, Washington, for use by the British-Australian Expedition to the Great Barrier Reef, permanently based on Low Isles, 1928-29. The Expedition's research published in 7 volumes by the British Museum forms the basis for our understanding of the biology of coral reefs. (Information from Pat Mather, QM, 13-9-2004)
