The DKW Auto Union opened a new plant in the Western-occupied zones after World War II. The old production sites were located in the Soviet-occupied zone and were partially dismantled. The new cars evolved in part from the pre-war models, like the “Meisterklasse” (master class), the F8, and the F9. The F 93, the “large DKW,” with its larger engine was put on the market in the mid-1950s. The body was around 10 cm wider than its predecessor and it had a new chrome-mounted oval grill as well as a smooth, curved windscreen. Models as of 1957 came with doors hinged at the front instead of the so-called suicide doors, which hinged closer to the back of the vehicle. The purchase price in its day was set at DM 5,455. Technical data: Engine: 3-cylinder-inline (two-stroke) Displacement: 906 cc³ Power: 28 kW (38 hp) Speed: 123 kmh In the wake of the depression, NSU sold its factory in Heilbronn in the late 1920s to FIAT. The Italian carmaker used the facility as an assembly plant and sold the vehicles produced there under the brand name NSU-Fiat. The model manufactured in Italy, which was identical in design to the limousine shown here, was the Fiat Nuova 1100 produced as of 1953. The German luxury model differed from the Italian original only in the ornaments on the radiator grill.
