DMZ Rice: The Life Story of Cheorwon Farmers is an attempt to approach the interior lives of border area residents with rice as the mediator. Cheorwon fields, the biggest grain belt in the DMZ border area, is a representative space where geopolitics has directly influenced villagers’ lives. As civilian entrance in this region was strictly controlled following the war, the land grew even more fertile, but ordinary life could not continue for residents. With rice as the subject matter, this exhibition records and reframes the story of Cheorwon farmers, who have cultivated their land in the hope of “eating rice out of our land.”
