Medical and nursing staff at Yungaba, Kangaroo Point Military Hospital. Parts of Yungaba Hospital and the grounds can be seen in the background, including the main entry door to the right of the photograph, behind the assembled nursing and medical staff. Yungaba was established in 1888 as an immigration centre, but was used for a variety of public purposes. During the depression of the 1890s it served as an employment agency and temporary refuge for the destitute, and in 1901 was used as a reception centre for Boer War returnees. During the First World War it was repurposed as the No.6 Australian General Hospital, and was again a military hospital during the Second World War.
