VOCALIST, guitarist and
Brazilian minister of
culture Gilberto Gil is an
amazing performer.
Gil brings warmth, style
and sincerity to his
performance, with an
astonishing sparring voice.
A large Brazilian contin-
gent in the audience
couldn't contain their
enthusiasm at having some
of their own in town.
The selection of
Brazilian samba,
traditional and reggae
inspired music was full of
energy and vitality and
the sound mix was
excellent.
His talented band
provided infinite joy and
enthusiasm in their
performances and played a
wide range of instruments
such as guitars, saxo-
phones, keyboards, drums
and percussion, colourful
piano accordion, as well
as backing vocals.
The two female
vocalists were sassy and
sultry, moving and
dancing with great vitality
and energy.
It was an exhilarating
and life enhancing
concert which brought a
smile and joy to the heart.
The pulsating samba
rhythms brought many
to their feet and by the
end a huge throng of
people were dancing at
the front of the stage
and in the aisles. The
response brought
several encores. No one
wanted to go home.
Gil and his band
played a wide and va
