F 30 YEARS ago was the Summer of
Love, this year might be the Sum-
mer of Nostalgia. Just as the Beat-
les were winding down, the Summer
of Love was in full force in San Fran-
cisco. That summer also marked the
beginning of an auspicious friendship
between the McCartneys and Chet
Helms, whose famous Avalon Ball-
room made '60s music history. This
year the McCartneys are back in
town to support their old friend
by throwing a special exhibit
of photography from Linda
McCartney's book Sixties.
Proceeds from the sales of
Linda's photographs will
benefit the 30th anniversary
celebration of the Summer
of Love being organized
by Helms. This exhibit,
which will also feature his-
toric Summer of Love pho
tos from San Francisco pho-
tographers Robert Altman,
Baron Wolman, and Herb
Greene, opens free to the pub-
lic Aug. 29, the 30th anniver-
sary of the Beatles' last con-
cert, held at Candlestick Park.
VIP opening reception (free
to public) Fri/29, 7:30-
