This print is part of Yoshitoshi's famous series "100 Aspects of the Moon" which depicts scenes from traditional Chinese and Japanese history and lore. The print depicts the award ceremony of Minamoto no Yorimasa (1106-1180) who shot the mythical nue-monster with an arrow. In return he was given a sword and allowed to marry Lady Shobu. A cuckoo interrupts the ceremony with its calling.
