In 2015 Rainmaker Entertainment released a feature-length movie "Barbie in Princess Power," a story in which Barbie plays the modern-day Princess Kara. Kissed by a magic butterfly, Kara discovers she has magical powers that transform her into Super Sparkle, a flying, crime-fighting super hero. After Super Sparkle makes peace with her nemesis, Dark Sparkle, they work together to face the kingdom's enemies. Traditionally, super heroes have been the province of little boys seeking larger than life figures to emulate in their play, while toy makers marketed more down-to- earth homebodies for girls' play. The Barbie in Princess Power dolls signal a shift in girl toys designed to encourage girls to consider themselves as powerful and unique individuals.
