The French firm May Freres manufactured a Bebe Mascotte beginning in 1890. The firm filed a patent the same year concerning the body of the doll and the use of metal springs to make the doll's joints flexible. May Freres boasted that its bebe could assume "any position that can be taken by the human body, including kneeling." By 1895, the firm no longer made dolls.
