The French doll maker May Freres patented its "Bebe Mascotte" in 1890, and it advertised the doll this way: "Bebee Mascotte, fully articulated, assumes all the positions of the human body, including kneeling. Wooden joint, metal or rubber frame." The head for the Bebe Mascotte, though a product of May Freres, was made by the Jumeau company. The string on the side of the dolls torso opens and closes the doll's eyes
