Late in the 19th century, all-bisque dolls appeared on the American market. These dolls came in sizes ranging from just an inch or two up to 12 or 15 inches. Collectors call the French-made all bisque "mignonettes," but German and Japanese makers also produced all-bisque dolls. Special features of these dolls appeal to modern collectors especially. These features include jointed elbows or knees, bare feet , unusual footwear, textured stockings, original clothes, and dolls that are more than eight inches in height.
