The Jumeau company produced its childlike bebe at a time when parents thought of their children as beautiful, unspoiled beings, the personifications of a perfect moral state. The faces of the French bebe dolls reflected this idealized, romantic view of children. Their rosy bisque complexions, big almond-shaped eyes, full cheeks, and delicately painted features created a captivating expression. Parents were drawn to purchase these dolls as representative of their own children.
