In the 1950s, when the German doll Bild Lilli and the American-made Barbie doll found popularity among American girls, several toy manufacturers made 11-inch dolls of their own. Doll historians and collectors call some of these imitators Hong Kong Lillis because many, like toy-manufacturing giant Louis Marx's, were actually manufactured in Hong Kong.
