The Averill doll company entered the talking-doll business in 1922 with its Dolly Rekord and her phonographic cylinders. This 26-inch doll, the size of a toddler, spoke nursery rhymes like "Old Mother Hubbard," "Little Boy Blue," and "London Bridge" via the small phonographs inserted into the record player in her torso.
